Alibaba restructures cloud unit amid AI wave, appoints new leaders

Alibaba Group is reshuffling the leadership of its US$11 billion cloud business after canceling its spin-off plans. This move is said to be in line with the group’s plans to capitalize on the AI trend.

Three new executives will lead crucial divisions at the Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. They include Liu Weiguang, which will helm the public cloud unit.

With the restructuring – which follows a US$24 billion sell-off prompted by the abandoned spin-off plans – the group aims to regain market share from state-backed rivals.
