Alibaba plans IPO of AI chip unit T-Head

Alibaba Group is planning to list its AI chip-making unit, T-Head, after restructuring it as a partly employee-owned business.

The company has not disclosed a timeline for the initial public offering (IPO).

T-Head is still at the early stages of the IPO process, and its valuation remains uncertain.

The move comes amid growing investor interest in Chinese companies developing AI hardware to compete with Nvidia.

Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu has pledged over US$53 billion toward AI and infrastructure investments.

This effort reflects broader Chinese industry trends to develop domestic AI chips amid US export restrictions banning advanced Nvidia chips.

Alibaba’s AI ambitions include building the consumer-facing Qwen app and expanding its AI infrastructure investments.
