Alibaba to ban Claude Code over security concerns

Alibaba will prohibit employees from using Claude Code in its office environment starting July 10 after classifying the Anthropic tool as high-risk software, according to a source inside Alibaba.

The decision followed recent claims that Claude Code posed a security risk because of alleged implanted backdoors. Public material reviewed for this report does not show evidence of a deliberate backdoor.

However, security analyses have described flaws that could allow malicious code repositories to trigger hidden command execution, along with risks tied to insecure skills and a recent source code leak.

Claude Code supports plugins and reusable skills for software developer workflows.

Alibaba will recommend Qoder as an alternative. The company offers tools for software development.
