Alibaba, Baidu shares jump on Apple AI partnership

Alibaba and Baidu rose in Hong Kong trading on July 16 after both said they were working with Apple on Apple Intelligence features in China. The announcements follow an approval notice from the Cyberspace Administration of China.

Alibaba shares rose 5% after the company said its Qwen model would be integrated into Apple Intelligence features for users in China across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS.

Baidu shares gained 4%. The company also working with Apple on Apple Intelligence features for iPhones in China.

On July 15, the regulator included Apple Intelligence and six other smartphone-based AI services, including Huawei Technologies, on a list of approved service providers.

The announcement strengthen both companies’ positions in China’s AI market as Apple expands Apple Intelligence in the country with local partners to meet regulatory requirements.
