Akamai launches beta AI inference, agent sandbox tools
Akamai introduced beta versions of Akamai Inference and Akamai Agent Sandbox on October 28, expanding the US-based cloud and cybersecurity company’s managed AI model serving and agent execution capabilities.
Akamai Inference provides managed access to open-weight and custom models through OpenAI-compatible APIs. Akamai Agent Sandbox isolates code written by AI agents from the agents’ runtime using WebAssembly.
The launch extends Akamai’s cloud business, which it calls Akamai Cloud. Linode, which Akamai acquired, describes itself as a distributed cloud computing platform.
Akamai is entering a market where managed inference API services already exist.
Akamai also said it expanded its graphics processing unit fleet with Nvidia Blackwell Ultra clusters and directed customers to sales for availability. It is preparing its data centers to support Vera Rubin in 2027. Nvidia detailed that platform in January 2026; that publication date does not establish its availability timeline.
