Airwallex hits $1b annualized revenue in October

Airwallex, a fintech company, said it has reached US$1 billion in annualized revenue run rate (ARR) as of October.

The company reported that it took nine years to reach its first US$500 million in ARR, and just over one year to double that figure.

Airwallex cited the recent acceleration as more customers using multiple products compared to last year.

The firm said the Americas and EMEA now account for 35% of its revenue, up from nearly zero three years ago.

Airwallex offers a global banking platform for businesses, serving clients in sectors such as software as a service (SaaS) and AI.

The company continues to expand in Europe, North America, and Asia, and is investing in AI-driven financial infrastructure.

Airwallex did not disclose specific customer figures or profitability details.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Airwallex’s multi-product strategy is lifting revenue faster than new signups

  • Airwallex hit a US$1 billion annualized revenue run rate (ARR) in October after nine years to reach US$500 million and about one year to double it, driven by existing customers adding products, with the base near 150,000 and up 50% in 2024 1.
  • Corporate cards and payments now drive over 50% of commercial gross profit, after a past focus on cross-border payments 2.
  • Gross profit in the Americas and EMEA grew at over 250% CAGR in four years and now makes up 35% of revenue 1. Net revenue retention often tops 120% 3, so customers spend more over time across payment rails and treasury, plus expense tools and issuing.

Fintechs with embedded finance can partner with Airwallex to capture B2B cross-border flows

  • Sacra estimates 93% of transactions run outside Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) rails, 95% settle within hours or the same day, and 68% process instantly 21. Fintech platforms can plug in payment acceptance, global treasury, and multi-currency card issuing application programming interfaces (APIs) to add cross-border features without building proprietary licensing 4.
  • Airwallex holds a broad licensing portfolio across Australia; Singapore; Hong Kong; Japan; New Zealand; the UK; the EU; the US; Canada; China; Malaysia; Mexico; and Brazil 51. Partners can embed this setup to generate local account numbers in 60+ countries and send or receive funds in 150+ countries 1, which avoids a multi-year regulatory burden.
  • Cross-border business-to-business trade will make up about two-thirds of an estimated US$200 trillion in flows in 2025 3. Fintech platforms serving small and medium-sized enterprises, software as a service (SaaS) firms, or e-commerce sellers can earn from volume and FX spreads by using Airwallex’s corridor-agnostic infrastructure 3.
