AirTrunk seeks $358m in bonds to fund AI data centers
AirTrunk is seeking to raise at least A$500 million (US$358 million).
The funds will come from asset-backed bonds in the second half of 2026 to refinance bank loans.
The planned sale could be among Asia’s first asset-backed bond issues by a data center operator as investors keep funding AI infrastructure.
AirTrunk has been expanding across the region. On April 20, 2026, it announced plans to acquire Lumina CloudInfra in India.
The company is also pursuing a Singapore REIT listing that could raise up to US$1.5 billion.
In addition, it secured a 191.6 billion yen (US$1.2 billion) green loan in Japan.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The planned A$500 million (US$358 million) bond is part of a wider funding mix
- The planned bond sale follows Blackstone’s ownership of AirTrunk and comes after heavy financing tied to the company’s expansion and refinancing work 12.
- AirTrunk has built a large debt base, including a sustainable refinancing outside Japan backed by a group of more than 60 banks and other financiers 3.
- The bank loans set for refinancing likely sit within a broader debt platform, including borrowing arranged around the acquisition package, which AirTrunk has been refinancing through sustainability-linked deals 1.
- The offering does not appear to signal funding strain. It looks like a way to widen AirTrunk’s capital options beyond bank loans and reach public debt investors through asset-backed bonds 1.
A successful bond sale could offer a new funding model for Asian data centers
- AirTrunk could help open a new financing route for Asia’s data center industry, which has long relied on bank debt and private equity.
- The approach resembles funding used for wireless communication towers, which package steady lease income to raise capital 4.
- A strong sale would make data center assets more familiar to public market investors, which could open a deeper pool of capital for the sector.
- This channel matters as companies rush to add AI and cloud capacity, with more than US$2 trillion in global investment expected over the next five years 2.
