AirTrunk, a Sydney-headquartered data center operator, said on July 29 that it had secured US$2.325 billion in green financing under its Green Financing Framework.

The company said the deal is Malaysia’s largest green project finance transaction for a single data center and AirTrunk’s largest single-asset financing to date.

AirTrunk said JHB2 targets a design power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.37 and will use water-efficient cooling technology. The 11-hectare campus is scalable to more than 270MW.

That is below global data center PUE averages of about 1.6 to 1.8.

AirTrunk did not disclose an opening date, but said it is working with Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s Green Lane Pathway to streamline high-voltage electricity supply to 12 months.

The financing comes as Johor emerges as a hyperscale hub, benefiting from demand spilling over from Singapore.

International Finance Corporation participation marked AirTrunk’s first financing from the World Bank Group member, following IFC-backed financing of more than US$900 million for Yondr’s Johor Bahru campus in 2024.
