AirTrunk opens Singapore HQ
AirTrunk, a hyperscale data center operator in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, opened a regional headquarters in Singapore’s Ocean Financial Center to mark 10 years in the market.
The company said the office will house senior teams across design and innovation, development, operations, treasury, legal, and corporate functions and that it expects to increase headcount over the coming years.
AirTrunk said it has committed several billion dollars of direct investment in Singapore since 2016 across three hyperscale facilities totalling 180 MW IT load.
The firm said it secured an S$2.3 billion (US$1.79 billion) green loan in August 2025 to finance its second Singapore data center, SGP2.
🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
AirTrunk’s Singapore HQ supports a possible REIT listing
- AirTrunk’s new headquarters adds more than day to day operations. It gives the company a base in a city where it is reportedly weighing options, including a potential real estate investment trust (REIT) listing in Singapore that could raise more than US$1 billion 1.
- A listing could arrive as early as 2026. A stronger on the ground presence can help with investor outreach and regulatory engagement in a market where REITs make up about 10% of the stock exchange’s market capitalization 1.
- The decision follows a landmark A$24 billion acquisition by a Blackstone-led consortium that included Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), one of Canada’s largest institutional investors. It was described as the largest-ever data centre deal globally 2.
Data center growth now follows national green energy rules
- AirTrunk’s S$2.3 billion green loan fits how Singapore now runs capacity approvals. New allocations link to strict energy-efficiency goals 3.
- The government’s “Green Data Centre Roadmap” targets at least 300 MW of additional capacity in the near term through higher efficiency at existing data centers. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Singapore’s digital regulator, has said it aims to uplift all data centers in Singapore to achieve PUE ≤1.3 (power usage effectiveness, a measure of a data center’s energy efficiency) at 100 percent IT load over the next 10 years 3.
- Similar pressure is emerging elsewhere. AirTrunk says its expansion in Japan aligns with the government’s Green Transformation (GX) ambitions 4.
- Access to top markets for AI infrastructure increasingly depends on provable sustainability, which makes green credentials a baseline requirement 5.
