Air New Zealand plans to introduce SpaceX’s Starlink internet services on its aircraft, marking an advancement in airline connectivity.

In an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia,” CEO Greg Foran emphasized that the days of unreliable Wi-Fi are drawing to a close for full-service carriers.

The integration of Starlink’s network of approximately 6,000 satellites will provide passengers with high-speed internet, facilitating video streaming and instant messaging.

Foran confirmed that flights using Starlink services will begin trials on selected domestic aircraft by late 2025, having been delayed from earlier timelines.

Globally, airlines are rapidly adopting Starlink technology.

United Airlines announced in September that it would to employ Starlink across its fleet of over 1,000 planes by 2025, while Air France will also begin integration in summer 2025.

The airlines will provide free internet access as part of the fare, avoiding additional charges.
