AI startup Turing reportedly raises $99m at $388m valuation

Turing, a Tokyo-based self-driving technology startup, has raised about ¥15.3 billion (US$99 million) in a series A round that valued the company at around US$388 million, according to people familiar with the matter.

Investors in the round include Denso, a major auto parts supplier for Toyota, and the fundraising includes a ¥5.5 billion (US$35.6 million) syndicated loan.

Turing, founded in 2021 by AI developer Issei Yamamoto, employs about 85 people, mostly engineers.

The startup is developing an AI-based autonomous driving system and is in talks with automotive supply chain companies, including Denso, on potential partnerships.

Turing’s technology is designed to be adaptable to various vehicle types, but will likely debut in high-end cars.

The company aims to launch its fully autonomous system in commercial vehicles by 2029.

Turing is working with Nvidia on end-to-end autonomous driving and is among several Japanese firms pursuing AI-driven self-driving technology.
