US AI security firm Verkada hits $5.8b valuation led by CapitalG

Verkada has secured an investment led by CapitalG, Alphabet’s independent growth fund, giving the US-based physical security platform a valuation of US$5.8 billion as of December 3, 2025.

This figure is up US$1.3 billion from its series E valuation earlier in 2025.

Verkada said the funding will support its development of AI features across its platform, which integrates video security, access control, sensors, intercoms, and alarms.

The company reported over 2 million devices deployed in 171 countries, and said it has surpassed US$1 billion in annualized bookings.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Verkada’s $1 billion bookings claim lacks clarity on revenue quality and profitability

  • “$1 billion+ annualized bookings” 1 leaves core questions open. Bookings mean committed contract value as a forward run rate. They differ from collected revenue and tell nothing about gross margins, which is revenue minus direct costs, or about profit.
  • GetLatka lists $357 million in 2024 revenue 2. Bookings likely convert over years through hardware sales and recurring software subscriptions. The hardware versus software split is undisclosed, which drives whether margins look like hardware or SaaS.
  • The company says physical security is a need-to-have spend 3, which can steady demand. Revenue grew 95% since September 2022 4. That pace alone does not reveal profit or cash burn for customer acquisition.

Third-party developers can build integrations on Verkada’s API for enterprise security workflows

  • An Application Programming Interface (API) on Representational State Transfer (REST) 5 enables data pulls, task automation, and third-party links. Security vendors can build Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) links, incident tools, or compliance automation on more than 2 million devices online 1.
  • Endpoints cover door control 6, camera access 7, and sensor reads 5. Builders can ship visitor systems, automated access tied to Human Resources (HR), or privacy redaction for regulated sectors.
  • More than 30,000 organizations use Verkada 1, and 70% of large enterprises use multiple product lines 8. Partners can link physical security data to identity platforms, analytics tools, or operational dashboards in place.
