Perplexity stays on track for 2028 IPO
Perplexity, a US-based AI search startup, plans to go public in 2028 and is not changing that timeline based on how listings by Anthropic and OpenAI perform, CEO Aravind Srinivas told CNBC.
The company was reportedly in talks in March to raise funding at a US$18 billion post-money valuation and had just under US$100 million in annual recurring revenue, indicating its scale ahead of a potential listing.
Srinivas said weak debuts by AI companies could still affect market sentiment. Anthropic, an AI model developer based in the US, has said initial public offering terms are not yet set, while OpenAI is reportedly expected to pursue a listing as early as this month.
He also pointed to SpaceX’s IPO this week as an early signal of investor appetite for large tech offerings.
Srinivas said companies are paying closer attention to AI costs, and Perplexity routes tasks across different models based on performance and price.
