US AI safety institute head Elizabeth Kelly resigns

Elizabeth Kelly, the head of the United States AI Safety Institute, is resigning from her position by the end of this week, according to sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Kelly has led the institute since its inception nearly a year ago, but did not comment on her departure, nor did the institute.

The US AI Safety Institute, part of the Commerce Department, was formed in 2023 following an executive order by former President Joe Biden.

The organization focuses on identifying and mitigating risks from advanced AI systems while collaborating closely with academics and developers.
