AI researcher Yi Tay returns to Google DeepMind

Yi Tay, a known AI researcher, has rejoined Google DeepMind after a year and a half in the startup sector.

He assumes a role as a senior staff research scientist, reporting to Quoc Le, his former manager.

Tay will concentrate on research in LLMs following his co-founding of Reka, a startup that achieved noteworthy progress in AI.

The startup raised over US$100 million, operating with a small technical team.

Reka, valued at US$300 million in 2023, reportedly discussed a US$1 billion acquisition with Snowflake, its customer and investor, but no deal was reached.
