AI giants seek reduced regulation under Trump administration
Executives from major AI companies, including OpenAI, Google, and Meta, are now seeking reduced regulation under the Trump administration, reversing their stance from 2023.
Since taking office in January 2025, President Trump has focused on accelerating AI development, repealing Biden-era regulations that aimed to protect privacy and ensure transparency.
AI companies are lobbying for favorable policies, with OpenAI urging the federal government to prevent state-level regulations, citing China’s AI progress as a competitive threat.
Google, Meta, and OpenAI are also pushing for federal support to classify AI training on copyrighted materials as “fair use,” as they face lawsuits from copyright holders.
