AI drug startup Insilico nets $110m series E
Insilico Medicine, an AI-driven drug discovery company, raised US$110 million in its series E funding round, valuing it at over US$1 billion. The round was led by Value Partners Group, with investments from Warburg Pincus, OrbiMed Advisors, and Eli Lilly & Co.’s venture arm.
The funding will enhance Insilico’s AI platform and support the clinical development of Rentosertib, its lead candidate for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which has completed Phase IIa trials.
The company has a pipeline of 30 drug assets, with 10 approved by the US FDA for investigational use. While its chemical synthesis and biological experiments are conducted in China, advanced clinical trials take place in the US.
Insilico also licenses its assets to firms like Fosun Pharma and Exelixis, securing contracts worth about US$3.5 billion.
Beyond drug development, Insilico is advancing its proprietary AI system, “pharma.ai,” integrating biology, chemistry, and clinical medicine. The company is also developing humanoid robots at its Suzhou lab to automate lab processes.
