US AI drug startup Earendil said to consider Hong Kong IPO
Earendil Labs is considering a Hong Kong listing that could raise as much as US$500 million, according to people familiar with the matter.
The company is working with China International Capital Corp and Morgan Stanley on the potential share sale, the people said.
Earendil, affiliate of Beijing-based Helixon Therapeutics, uses machine learning, generative protein engineering, and laboratory experiments to develop biologic therapies.
It has collaborations with Sanofi, including one announced in January on autoimmune and inflammatory disease programs, and recent agreements with Hong Kong-listed Wuxi XDC Cayman Inc. on cancer therapy technology, and with Wuxi Biologics Cayman Inc.
🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Earendil’s valuation leans on big pharma checks tied to specific programs
- The partnerships carry clear financial stakes for a pre-IPO price, even before any product launch.
- A Sanofi agreement for two bispecific autoimmune candidates brings $125 million upfront, with as much as $1.7 billion in total value 1.
- A separate WuXi XDC collaboration, a Hong Kong-listed biotech services company, targets antibody-drug conjugates for cancer and can reach $885 million 2.
- Large upfront payments from established drugmakers give Earendil early revenue linked to defined assets, which supports its AI platform’s credibility long before commercialization.
A Hong Kong IPO looks like a pragmatic choice amid US-China tensions
- Hong Kong offers a listing venue that can reduce political friction compared with a US exchange.
- Earendil is incorporated in Delaware, while its operational affiliate sits in Beijing and it works with Chinese partners such as WuXi XDC 3.
- That footprint can draw tougher questions in the US, especially after the BIOSECURE Act in December 2025, a US law aimed at limiting collaboration with certain Chinese biotech firms 3.
- If the Hong Kong IPO succeeds, it can finance Earendil and also serve as a template for global biotechs managing US-China business ties, while strengthening Hong Kong’s standing as a more neutral capital market.
