A new study soon to be published in Management Science reveals how genAI is affecting demand for online freelance work.

The research analyzes data from a global freelancing platform, showing a decline in job listings for tasks susceptible to automation, such as those using tools like ChatGPT.

Notably, writing tasks saw a 30% drop. Image-generating technology has also caused a 17% decline in demand for graphic design jobs.

Furthermore, the study highlights increased competition in these areas, with more bids per job on average.

In contrast, there’s been a rise in job complexity and payment offers, with a 5.71% increase in how much employers are willing to pay for automation-prone tasks.
