Nvidia-backed Cursor hits $2b annualized revenue: sources

Cursor had surpassed a US$2 billion annualized revenue run rate by annualizing its latest monthly revenue, according to Bloomberg.

Source said the startup’s revenue run rate doubled over the past three months. This disclosure followed social media skepticism about Cursor’s momentum after high-profile defections by individual developers on Twitter to Anthropic’s Claude Code.

Corporate customers accounted for about 60% of Cursor’s revenue after the company shifted focus toward large corporate buyers from its earlier emphasis on individual developers.

Cursor was last valued at US$29.3 billion after a US$2.3 billion funding round in November co-led by Accel and Coatue.

Cursor did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Cursor’s revenue surge is fueled by a high-touch sales model and a contentious pricing shift

  • About 60% of Cursor’s revenue is said to come from corporate customers. The company leans on “field engineers,” hybrids of sales engineers and forward-deployed engineers, who meet key clients at least weekly to plan projects and make the product’s payoff clear 1.
  • The approach focuses on top software developers inside large firms. Those users often become internal champions, which later helps bring in C-suite executives 1.
  • Online skepticism around Cursor’s momentum has centered on developers publicly moving to rivals, especially Anthropic’s Claude Code 2, 3.
  • Cursor’s June 2025 pricing changes sparked backlash and a public apology. The shift exposed friction between predictable per-seat pricing and variable AI compute costs 2, 3.
  • Some users and software teams found the move to credit-based, usage-linked billing hard to manage. Reports described surprise bills and fast credit burn when running pricier AI models 4, 5.

AI coding tools are creating a multi-tool market, not a monopoly

  • Tools like GitHub Copilot have high adoption, yet enterprises often use more than one platform, which keeps the market from turning into winner-take-all 6.
  • Nearly half of organizations in one survey pay for multiple AI coding tools. Many treat the mix as practical since each product tends to shine in different jobs 6.
  • Developers may pick Cursor for tab completions and its editor feel. Some also use Claude Code for more autonomous, complex multi-file work 7.
  • Running several tools in parallel can push per-developer spend up. Cursor has told customers effective use can deliver about 20% efficiency gains, with some teams claiming 2x to 6x faster shipping 1.
