AI boom lifts Taiwan’s 2025 growth forecast to 7.4%

Taiwan has raised its 2025 economic growth forecast to 7.4%, up from 4.5%, citing strong global demand for AI-related products.

Exports, consumption, imports, and investment projections were revised upward, with merchandise exports expected to hit US$664.4 billion, marking Taiwan’s highest annual growth since 2010.

Officials attributed the surge to increased capital spending by global cloud service providers, boosting demand for Taiwanese chips, servers, and components.

Private consumption is expected to rise 1.5% in 2025, supported by a NT$10,000 (US$318.5) cash handout to residents and lower commodity taxes boosting car sales.

The growth forecast for 2026 is set at 3.5%, with risks from US trade policies and semiconductor tariff investigations.

Analysts said the revised projections reflect the AI-driven export boom but warned of uncertainties from global policy shifts and market volatility.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Taiwan’s 7.4% GDP outlook leans on AI servers, with Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) tying gains to semiconductors and information and communications technology (ICT)

  • Taiwan’s 2025 GDP near 7.4% rests on AI exports 1. DGBAS names semiconductors as leader, with computers and electronics plus optical products driving growth, while ICT is 70% of exports 21.
  • Real exports of goods and services may jump 23.74% in 2025 if AI demand holds and U.S. curbs on AI chips ease 2. Cloud service providers, companies that run large data centers, must lift capital expenditures 40% in 2025 34. Demand must last into 2026 as AI server growth cools after two years of rapid gains 34.

Suppliers can target Taiwan’s AI server original design manufacturers (ODMs) by tracking platform forecasts and service shifts

  • Server ODM Inventec sees double digit growth in 2025 AI server shipments 5. Work shifts from higher priced rack assembly L10 (a final rack‑integration stage) in the first half to motherboards L6 (a board‑level assembly stage) in the second half, which can lift gross margins 5.
  • Global AI server deliveries could top 2.1 million units in 2025, a 24.1% rise, with NVIDIA shipping 5.9 million GPUs 3. Racks need liquid cooling and high density power distribution 3. The move to GB200 plus GB300 data center GPUs opens work for system integrators plus component makers, with fully integrated AI server rack shipments from 36,000 in 2025 to 59,000 in 2026 3.
