AI boom drives Taiwan exports up 40.3% in June
Taiwan’s exports rose 40.3% year on year to US$74.83 billion in June, the Ministry of Finance said.
The increase extended export growth to 32 consecutive months, driven by global AI investment that boosted demand for advanced computing equipment and semiconductors.
Shipments of information, communications, and audio-video products jumped 72.3% to US$33.92 billion.
Electronic component exports, mainly semiconductors, rose 32.8% to US$25.39 billion.
Exports to the US rose 34.8% to US$23.28 billion, while exports to China rose 22.2%.
Shipments to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Europe climbed 47.1% and 48.4%, respectively.
Imports rose 51.8% to a record US$62.63 billion, leaving Taiwan with a trade surplus of US$12.2 billion.
The ministry forecast July export growth of 34% to 39% and warned that geopolitical tensions and uncertainty over US tariff policies could affect export momentum.
The Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, a Taipei-based think tank, recently raised Taiwan’s 2025 gross domestic product growth forecast to 7.22% on strong AI demand and exports.
