Agoda sorry for severance terms discouraging employee assistance

Online travel platform Agoda has apologized after media reports highlighted concerns about its recent restructuring and severance agreements for customer support staff, including those in Singapore.

Agoda said meetings were held with the Ministry of Manpower, Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices, National Trades Union Congress, and the Singapore Industrial and Services Employees’ Union to address issues raised.

Agoda acknowledged that its severance agreements included language that could be seen as discouraging employees from seeking help from authorities, which it says was inappropriate.

The company said it is contacting affected employees to clarify their rights and ensure access to support schemes for job matching and training.

Agoda is part of Booking Holdings and operates in 27 markets.
