Agoda partners with Checkout.com on travel payments
Agoda, a Singapore-headquartered digital travel platform owned by Booking Holdings, said on June 30 that it had partnered with London-based payments company Checkout.com for payment processing and virtual card issuing.
The setup will support bookings and supplier payouts across Agoda’s network of more than 6 million hotels and holiday properties worldwide.
Checkout.com said the arrangement combined its AI-based Intelligent Acceptance tool with network tokens and real-time account updater services.
The integrated offering is designed to improve approval rates and reduce failed transactions in cross-border, multicurrency, and high-volume payment flows.
In practice, tokens replace card numbers and can stay current when cards are reissued, while account updater tools refresh stored credentials after a card expires or is replaced.
On the supplier side, virtual cards are already common in travel because they can be issued for each booking with spending controls and booking references that simplify reconciliation.
One industry estimate said they accounted for 40% of online travel agency payments to hotels by the end of 2022.
More broadly, one industry estimate said 11% of ecommerce transactions fail, while 72% of businesses report higher failure rates in cross-border payments.
Agoda also sells flights and activities, while Checkout.com said it processed more than US$300 billion in ecommerce payments in 2025.
