Agoda cuts 50 employees over cost, hiring challenges
Agoda has laid off 50 employees from its Singapore office, according to a report by The Business Times.
The online travel platform informed staff during a virtual town hall on August 4 that customer experience group roles in Singapore, Shanghai, and Budapest would be cut.
Management cited cost issues and recruitment challenges as reasons for the retrenchment, the report said.
All customer experience roles in the three cities, including customer service specialists and regional managers, were eliminated.
A severance document reportedly instructed affected employees not to report the layoffs to government agencies or unions, with severance benefits at risk if they did.
The document also explained that staff making claims against Agoda would need to cover the company’s costs resulting from such actions.
Agoda continues to advertise customer experience jobs in other markets, such as Japan, South Korea, and Bangkok.
