Aeon360, Google Cloud team up on AI shopping in SEA
Aeon360 has entered a multi-year collaboration with Google Cloud as part of an agentic commerce roadmap in Southeast Asia, and develop AI agents for product discovery, delivery, and customer support.
The companies said Aeon360 is using Google Cloud’s BigQuery platform to build an enterprise knowledge graph that reconciles data from different Aeon entities and customer touchpoints as a foundation for deploying AI agents.
Google Cloud will also help establish the Aeon360 Innovation Foundry in Kuala Lumpur to help ensure Aeon employees are AI fluent, equip them with Google skills and certifications, and provide a dedicated environment for teams to create and scale agentic AI solutions.

Aeon’s AI investment follows a shift toward a new customer group
- The plan is a 50 million ringgit (US$10.6 million) joint venture between Aeon Credit (51%) and Aeon Co (M) Bhd, Aeon’s Malaysian retail operating company (49%). It will bring together Aeon’s separate customer membership, loyalty programs, and digital services in Malaysia 1.
- Aeon Credit wants to cut its dependence on financially stressed lower-income B40 customers, a Malaysian government income group classification for the bottom 40% of households. The focus moves to Aeon retail’s middle-income M40 shoppers, the middle 40% of households 1.
- The app will weave in financing such as personal loans. The joint venture targets at least 10 million active members within five years, plus profitability within three years 1.
Aeon360 joins Google’s push for agent-led shopping
- The partnership puts Aeon360 inside Google’s agentic commerce strategy, where AI agents handle shopping tasks for customers 2.
- Google is building an open standard called the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). It co-developed UCP with Shopify, Target, and Walmart 2.
- A similar path appears in Singapore. Retailer FairPrice Group, a major supermarket operator, uses Google Cloud-powered agentic tools in smart shopping carts. It also automates the creation of promotional ads 3.
