Adobe approves $25b repurchase plan through 2030

Adobe said on April 21 that its board approved a new US$25 billion share repurchase program that will run through April 30, 2030, and its stock rose about 2% in extended trading.

The company’s shares are still down about 30% this year as investors assess whether new agentic AI tools could reduce demand for traditional software and design products.

The buyback plan reflects Adobe’s cash flow position and its view of long-term shareholder value.

  • Adobe is widening partnerships to scale what it calls “agentic workflows,” or AI-led processes that handle multi-step tasks 2.
  • Adobe is also trying to shape what it calls “agentic marketing,” which uses AI agents to help plan, create, and manage marketing work 3.

The buyback signals cash strength during a software industry shift

  • Adobe said its board approved a new US$25 billion share repurchase program that runs through April 30, 2030 4.
  • Adobe tied the buyback to its cash flow and long-term shareholder value, said Dan Durn, CFO at Adobe.
  • The 2030 end date suggests Adobe sees the software industry shift as a transition that will take years.
