Accel, Prosus join forces to fund early-stage Indian startups
Accel and Prosus have launched an investment partnership to fund Indian startups from their earliest stages.
The deal marks the first time Amsterdam-based Prosus is investing at the formation stage, with both firms co-investing in startups focused on areas such as automation, energy transition, internet services, and manufacturing.
Accel, a global venture capital firm (VC), is expanding its early-stage founder program, Atoms X, as part of the partnership.
Prosus has committed to matching Accel’s investment in each company, with initial checks ranging from US$100,000 to US$1 million.
The two firms have recently co-invested in startups including tutoring platform Arivihan, and internet provider Wiom.
India saw venture capital funding fall 25% year-on-year to US$4.8 billion in H1 2025, but the country remains a priority for global investors.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Early formation funding tackles India’s startup dilution trap
- Startups solving population-scale needs face long build times and heavy dilution before traction 1. Accel and Prosus plug this gap with day-zero checks of $100,000 to $1 million 1, so founders can hit milestones before later rounds.
- India long leaned on adapted global models over homegrown scale plays 1. Atoms X, Accel’s program for frontier tech, backs LeapTech breakthroughs that take years to build 2, such as Sarla Aviation and Wiom 2.
- Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Aadhaar (the national digital ID system), India’s digital rails, speed scaling 1. With 700 million smartphone users creating huge addressable markets 1, formation funding lets teams seize these advantages before dilution bites.
B2B vendors can plug into Accel Atoms before markets crowd
- Atoms AI (Accel’s AI-focused track) and Atoms X run year-round and accept founders from idea to pre-revenue stages 2. These tracks create a steady stream of funded teams that need tools or services 2, and selected startups get over $5 million in partner perks like credits, discounts, and tools 3.
- Over 30% of Atoms startups raise follow-on rounds, and Accel leads more than half of those 1. Early engagement opens a sales path into fast-growing accounts. Accel has backed over 40 startups through Atoms 1.
- Focus areas span automation, manufacturing, energy transition, and internet services 1. Vendors in robotics hardware, industrial Internet of Things (IoT), or renewable energy components can spot fits early when pilots and proofs of concept create near-term revenue.
