Accel leads $8m series A for Indian IoT security startup Spintly

Spintly, a Goa-based IoT and security company, has raised US$8 million in series A funding led by Accel, with participation from Enrission India Capital, SucSEED Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and Chakra Growth Fund.

The company develops wireless, cloud-based access control and smart building solutions, with a patented wireless mesh architecture protected by seven patents.

Spintly’s technology enables secure keyless entry, attendance tracking, and visitor management through a smartphone-centric BLE mesh platform, replacing traditional wired systems.

The funding will support market expansion in India, MEA, and the US, with 60% allocated to growth, 20% to R&D focused on AI-driven smart building features, and 20% to operations.

Founded in 2020, Spintly serves enterprise clients in corporate offices, tech parks, and coworking spaces across India, MEA, and the US, offering hardware and software as a service solutions that integrate with existing systems.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Spintly enters a crowded market focused on replacing legacy systems

  • Spintly raised a US$8 million series A round to take on access control rivals such as Kisi and Swiftlane 1.
  • Kisi, Swiftlane, and similar vendors sell cloud-based access control and security tools for commercial spaces 1.
  • Spintly pitches patented wireless mesh technology, backed by seven patents, as a way to cut wiring and labor costs compared with traditional installs 2.
  • The system connects to existing legacy access control setups through Wiegand (a common access-control wiring interface) and Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) (a communications standard for card readers and controllers), so businesses can modernize without a full replacement 2.

The hardware-as-a-service model is reshaping physical security

  • Spintly combines hardware with software as a service, following a wider move to bring in recurring revenue by shifting expenses from one-time charges into ongoing fees 3.
  • This mix can support steadier cash flow and connect pricing to continued customer value, as discussed in software-as-a-service (SaaS) pricing guidance 4.
  • Subscriptions that include hardware can reduce upfront costs for customers, which may speed adoption 3.
  • The approach keeps spreading across Internet of Things (IoT) devices, where products such as door locks become platforms for longer service relationships and future feature upgrades 5.
