Accel leads $36.5m series A for AI startup Code Metal
Code Metal, a company specializing in AI-powered code translation, has raised US$36.5 million in a series A round led by Accel, bringing its valuation to US$250 million.
The round also saw participation from RTX Ventures, Bosch Ventures, Smith Point Capital, Overmatch VC, AE Ventures, and existing investors Shield Capital, J2 Ventures, and Fulcrum Venture Group.
Code Metal’s platform is used in sectors that require strict safety and regulatory compliance, including defense, automotive, and semiconductors.
The company said it is already under contract to deliver eight figures in revenue this year.

- The federal government, including the Department of Defense (DoD), is modernizing software. The System for Award Management (SAM.gov) lists a Modern Software Delivery multiple-award Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) 1. That vehicle could explain Code Metal’s defense revenue.
- Code Metal targets safety and compliance in code translation, which fits regulated settings such as defense. The funding note did not name agencies or prime contractors.
- Lack of contract detail makes the defense stream hard to size or judge. We do not know if the company holds prime awards or subcontracts, or which branches or programs it serves.
How contractors and software firms can tap DoD modernization budgets with AI code compliance wrappers
- Firms can bid on federal software modernization work that includes DoD by pairing with or building tools that verify and test AI-translated legacy programs. They also document the results.
