ABB launches Infinitus for AI data centers

Swiss-Swedish electrification and automation firm ABB launched its Infinitus direct current (DC) portfolio on September 21 for AI data centers, as operators seek ways to meet rising power demand.

ABB said Infinitus is an integrated source-to-rack offering that cuts conversion steps and reduces infrastructure footprint.

The company expects the first DC-native facilities using the full portfolio to be installed and operational within two to three years.

The launch comes as the International Energy Agency expects global data center electricity demand to more than double by 2030.

ABB also said Southeast Asia’s data center capacity could rise from 2.8 GW to 9.4 GW by 2035.

The move also fits a wider industry shift toward high-voltage DC designs for AI infrastructure.

Vertiv said such systems could support AI expansion, while Nvidia said 800 VDC architectures could power next-generation AI facilities.
