A16z leads $300m round for AI infrastructure startup Gimlet

Gimlet Labs, a startup that develops software to split AI workloads across different chips, has raised US$300 million in a funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz that valued the company at US$3 billion.

New investors Arm Holdings and M12, Microsoft’s venture fund, joined the round.

Chief executive Zain Asgar said Gimlet is also working with Arm to make its software compatible with different types of Arm chip technology.

Asgar said Gimlet has expanded beyond routing AI tasks. The company now helps customers set up data centers for mixed-chip systems and is also developing its own data centers.

The funding came six months after Gimlet raised US$80 million and less than a year after a US$12 million seed round, showing investor interest in infrastructure that could reduce reliance on AI systems built largely around Nvidia chips.
