Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital firm in the US, said it will launch Horowitz Andreessen Academy in San Francisco in fall 2027. The free program targets recent high school graduates and college dropouts building AI products.

The first cohort will include about 50 students, the firm said. They will receive housing, computing resources, and travel funds.

The academy is backed by US$42 million from Andreessen Horowitz and individual investors, including former Facebook CTO Adam D’Angelo and Palantir CTO Shyam Shankar.

Andreessen Horowitz said the first class will run for one year, with a two-year program planned the following year.

It said Anthropic, Google, Nvidia, and Palantir helped develop the academy, and more than 40 companies have signed on to recruit students afterward.

The effort echoes the Thiel Fellowship, a program launched in 2011 for people aged 22 or younger who leave or skip college to build projects.
