A16z co-leads $300m round for AI firm Volta Infra
Volta Infra Holdings, a Cali-based AI infrastructure company that secures power, land, and connectivity for AI operators, has raised US$300 million at a US$2.4 billion valuation and secured another US$5 billion in financing for customers seeking access to AI chips and computing capacity.
Andreessen Horowitz and Altimeter Capital co-led the round, with Nvidia and Michael Dell also participating.
The startup said its unnamed six-year, US$10 billion customer contract will be delivered with Bitdeer, a Singapore-headquartered bitcoin miner and data center operator, at a site in Tydal, Norway.
Bitdeer said its subsidiary Tydal Data Center AS will provide 121 information technology megawatts, supported by an estimated 133 gross megawatts, under a 16-year colocation lease and services agreement with Volta’s subsidiary.
The deal adds to a shift toward asset-backed AI infrastructure funding.
CoreWeave closed a US$8.5 billion facility backed by high-performance computing infrastructure and a customer contract.
Moody’s warned that rapid expansion and structured finance can raise overbuilding, technology obsolescence, and refinancing risks if demand softens.
