A16z backs $5m pre-seed round in UAE AI startup

Smart Bricks, a Dubai-based AI startup focused on real estate, announced a US$5 million pre-seed funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z Speedrun).

Founded in 2024, the company is developing an AI infrastructure to automate real estate discovery, underwriting, and transactions, aiming to reduce processes from months to minutes.

The platform ingests over 1 million data feeds to analyze global markets and identifies the top 0.1% of properties based on risk-adjusted returns, automating up to 99% of the workflow.

Smart Bricks targets both retail and institutional investors in major markets like Dubai, London, and New York, offering real-time insights and transaction automation.

The company has received recognition from TechCrunch and other industry bodies and is backed by notable investors including Techstars, 500 Global, and angel investors from OpenAI and Blackstone.

Founder Mohamed Mohamed has a background in AI, strategy, and investment at firms like McKinsey, Blackstone, and Goldman Sachs.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Smart Bricks wants to be a “Bloomberg for real estate,” not another property portal

  • Founder Mohamed Mohamed draws on work at McKinsey, Blackstone, and Goldman Sachs. He says institutions rely on proprietary data pipelines, valuation models, and early AI, while many individuals still trade deals through WhatsApp and PDFs 1.
  • Smart Bricks describes itself as an infrastructure layer like Bloomberg (a financial data and analytics terminal widely used by professional investors) or algorithmic trading platforms. It says the product focuses on autonomous reasoning systems rather than property listings 1.
  • Although it markets to retail and institutional investors, the company’s materials focus on family offices (wealth management firms for high-net-worth families) and funds. It says “when managing 100+ properties or deploying eight-figure capital allocations, precision matters” 2.
  • The platform is pitched as an “autonomous reasoning system” that simulates deal outcomes with automated valuation models, cash-flow forecasting, and downside risk modeling, which goes beyond basic property search 1.

AI is moving into professional workflows, not only datasets

  • Smart Bricks frames its product as “agentic AI” for property technology, shifting attention from data aggregation to software that can execute parts of professional work 1.
  • Across vertical AI (industry-specific AI software), vendors are targeting industries with fragmented information. Some full-stack platforms claim they can shrink analysis from weeks or months to minutes 1.
  • Smart Bricks says it can automate up to 99% of the workflow from valuation and underwriting to due diligence, negotiation, and financing, which could pressure brokers, analysts, and lawyers if adoption spreads 3.
  • Smart Bricks argues that wider use could add liquidity to illiquid assets and speed capital movement across global real estate markets, pushing real estate closer to a cross-border financial system 1.
