Social media giants Meta, TikTok, and YouTube are reportedly contemplating obtaining ecommerce licenses in Indonesia, following a ban on online shopping via social media in the country. The Trade Ministry started implementing the restrictions recently to protect user data and smaller offline traders.

TikTok is also reportedly in talks with local ecommerce firms like Tokopedia for a partnership that will allow the short-video platform to continue its social commerce business in Indonesia.
