TikTok has pledged to invest billions in Indonesia, where it has 125 million monthly active users. However, Indonesian officials are expressing concerns about TikTok’s power to influence user purchases through its algorithm.

The country’s Ministry of Trade has proposed regulations to separate TikTok’s social media and ecommerce operations.
