US chip manufacturing supplier Applied Materials is suing rival Mattson, alleging a 14-month espionage effort that included hiring 17 senior engineers and transferring semiconductor equipment designs. The lawsuit has raised further concerns about China’s efforts to build a world-class chip industry and circumvent US sanctions.
