In 50 Words: Microsoft announces AI investment boost after beating earnings estimates

Microsoft has announced plans to invest heavily in artificial intelligence services, following strong fourth-quarter earnings. The company said that costs have risen as it builds data centers to support AI, and that capital expenditures will continue to increase each quarter throughout fiscal 2024.

One of Microsoft’s AI investments is the launch of Copilot, a summarizing assistant that will cost US$30 per month. Copilot is not yet ready for release, but the company expects revenues to begin generating in the second half of fiscal 2024.

Regardless of these positive announcements, its shares dipped by nearly 4% in after-hours trading.
