Malaysia could become the first country in Southeast Asia to impose widespread curbs on short-stay rentals like Airbnb. This comes after a popular holiday area, Penang, introduced restrictions due to rowdy tourists. The nation has been mulling action over this and the misuse of residential areas, with new rules – which will still allow serviced apartments – set to be enforced on March 1, 2024.
