In 50 Words: IPhone 15 production kicks off in India, aims to match China’s timeline
Production of Apple’s next-generation iPhone 15 has commenced in Tamil Nadu, India, aiming to reduce the manufacturing timeline difference between China and India. The scale of iPhone 15 production in India will be contingent upon component availability and the seamless ramp-up of production at the Foxconn factory.
Before the iPhone 14, India’s assembly process lagged China’s by six to nine months and produced minimal output. However, by the end of March this year, Apple had manufactured 7% of its iPhones in the country.
This initiative aligns with Apple’s broader strategy of diversifying its manufacturing operations beyond China, a move aimed at mitigating supply chain risks amidst ongoing tensions between the United States and China.
