Shares of iFlytek fell 10% after social media users claimed that its AI-powered study assistant tablet generated an essay criticizing Mao Zedong, founder of the People’s Republic of China and first chairman of the Chinese Communist Party.

Liu Qingfeng, chairman of iFlytek, attributed the error to content provided by a supplier. The device’s content review system has been bolstered, he added.
