Character.AI, which lets users converse with chatbots that have customizable personalities, is reportedly in early-stage discussions for a funding round that could increase its valuation to more than US$5 billion.

The firm, started by former Google employees, raised US$150 million earlier this year in a round led by Andreesen Horowitz.
