Google parent company Alphabet Inc has reported higher than anticipated Q2 profits and earnings, with a 7% rise in revenue at US$74.6 billion, from US$69.7 billion a year earlier. The gains were largely driven by its cloud-computing unit, which grew 28% in revenue. It saw US$395 million in income after losing US$590 million during the same quarter last year.
Following the news, shares rose by 7% during after-hours trading on Tuesday.
It was also announced that Ruth Porat, Alphabet’s CFO, is being promoted to her new role at the firm as president and chief investment officer.
