Alibaba Group’s Hong Kong shares increased 5.5% following a US$984 million fine for its subsidiary, Ant Group, by Chinese regulators. The penalty raised hopes of an end to extended fintech regulation. Ant’s share buyback, valued at US$78.54 billion, was announced on Saturday, while Alibaba’s US shares rose 8% on Friday after the fine was imposed.
