Netflix reportedly buys Ben Affleck’s AI firm for $600m
Netflix announced the acquisition of InterPositive in a deal could be worth up to US$600 million, according to people familiar with the matter.
InterPositive is an AI startup co-founded by Ben Affleck that makes post-production editing tools for filmmakers.
The deal may include lower upfront cash and additional payouts tied to performance targets.
Netflix has not publicly confirmed the terms.
The deal fits Netflix’s push to add AI to production after it used generative AI for a building collapse scene in the Argentine series The Eternaut.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Netflix’s AI strategy aims to earn Hollywood’s trust
- InterPositive’s AI differs from generative models that produce content from text prompts because it trains on a production’s own dailies (raw footage) 1.
- Filmmakers can use it to relight shots or add visual effects with existing material instead of making new assets from scratch 2.
- Netflix and InterPositive co-founder Ben Affleck describe the tool as meant to “empower storytellers, not replace them” 3 and to “protect creative intent” 4.
- All 16 members of the InterPositive team will join Netflix. Netflix says it will not sell the technology. Creative partners will get access to InterPositive’s tech 1.
Enterprise AI may lean toward niche, in-house tools
- The deal follows Netflix exiting its bid to buy Warner Bros. Discovery’s studios and streaming businesses 1. It suggests Netflix prefers smaller technology buys over large M&A (mergers and acquisitions).
- The approach offers one path for AI in creative work. It uses a filmmaker-built system, with Affleck describing it as centered on workflow and technique 5.
- Keeping the technology internal while sharing it with creative partners could strengthen Netflix’s position. Rivals like Disney and Amazon also invest in AI for film and TV 6.
