NetDragon, with Cartoon Network, Launches a Kids Gaming Portal for China

cartoon network chinaNetDragon, one of the leading Chinese online gaming giants, recently launched a fun and cute content portal, 91kt.com, for kids and cartoon lovers (like me). It is a partnership between NetDragon and Turner Broadcasting System, which owns the famous Cartoon Network. The statement also explains that this joint venture is aligned with the goals of the Haixi Animation Creative City project, an initiative to develop local talents in the animation industry.

The portal looks cute and actually got me hooked onto the site for about 30 minutes. (Don’t laugh… we’re all kids at heart!). Head over to the site and you will probably find it pretty entertaining too.

For kids who know the Cartoon Network, you can find many familiar characters on there, including Dexter, Powerpuff Girls, and Johnny Bravo. The site offers content ranging from Flash-based games, cartoon trailers, and cartoon character customization (which requires you to register to access). There’s also an active discussion forum for fans.

I tried a couple of games, including Juniper Lee where the gamer runs around killing monsters, finding gems, and collecting special items. Overall it’s a pretty neat portal by NetDragon and Cartoon Network, considering that the content is free for kids to play and explore in their free time. But it might also keep them glued to the screen and parents might find it hard to coax their children into finishing their homework!

A new Chinese start-up recently entered the kids entertainment sector as well, as LeKan launched its licensed cartoon and kids movie site. That’s run by a small team of former Disney execs, who’re aiming to get Chinese parents to subscribe to a site that kids can safely use by themselves. It doesn’t have games though.
