Narendra Modi's first tweet as new prime minister sets Twitter record in India

In the past hour, the outgoing Indian National Congress party conceded defeat in India’s election count. Opposition leader Narendra Modi, of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata party, is set to be the new Prime Minister even though not all votes are counted.

Modi immediately took to Twitter to say:

That tweet is the most retweeted ever from India, according to the official Twitter India account. At the time of publishing, Modi’s tweet has accumulated 40,000 retweets and 24,500 favorites in the 45 minutes since it was posted.
