Indian Group Buy Site Mydala Goes Mobile With Blackberry App

Our readers may remember that Indian group-buying site Mydala.com recently hit the three million subscribers milestone. And now in order to capitalize on the huge mobile market in India, Mydala today launched India’s first free group buying Blackberry smartphone application. This app makes it easy for Blackberry users to get their favorite deals within seconds using the Mydala app.

The new application is location-aware, and finds deals available in your area. Also the availability of integrated payment options enables users to pay on the phone itself and receive instant discounts. Mydala also features some in-store discounts exclusively for Blackberry users.

This move should prove beneficial for the group-buy service in the long run, likely adding to its pool of subscribers. Mydala has been enjoying solid growth of late, with traffic growing by 3.5x over the last few months.

Launched in 2009, Mydala differentiates itself from its competitors by providing its users with an online merchant store Mydala mall where users can find multiple deals in one place at the same time.

The market leader is currently Snapdeal, the service that gained much attention when it adopted a village in India, now known as Snapdeal Nagar. At present, it still does not have any mobile apps.

So targeting mobile consumers should help MyDala improve upon its current third place position amongst Indian discount sites. But Snapdeal has been getting creative with initiatives like group car buying to keep its customers glued.

Snapdeal has surpassed Amazon-invested LivingSocial in terms of the daily traffic trends, but is behind the cash-depleted Groupon. Beating Snapdeal in India might be a mighty task right now for Mydala, but the launch of the Blackberry app shows that its top level management has a wide vision.
