Multiple Facebook Pages Appear To Fight Corruption in India

Within 4 days, Facebook page, ‘Corruption for India’ has ballooned to about 150,000 likes. What’s interesting, however, is that multiple community pages are appearing on Facebook.

With a common goal and display pictures, these pages are formed to rally supporters abroad. Pages for USA, Dubai and Uttar Pradesh (a state located in Northern India) are so far created on Facebook. We can certainly expect more as the movement gains steam.

On the U.S version of ‘Corruption for India’, events like “Skip a Meal” were created for the Bay Area people to show their support. Similarly, in Dubai, an event was created to invite people to pray in silence rather than protest. It starts today, April 8 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm and about a 100 people have confirmed their attendance.

We will not be Protesting …. We will not disturb anyone else… We will just pray in silence that this legend  [Anna Hazare] lives a healthy and long life to help India.
This is no compulsion – nor entertainment – just praying .. If no one comes I will pray alone!

With over 23 million users in India, Facebook has become the number one choice to rally supporters to create a unified ‘voice’ to fight corruption. Activist, Anna Hazare has not eaten for the last four days as way to show his determination to fight corruption in India.

Besides Facebook, the Twitter buzz for hashtags like #annahazare, Mera Neta Chor Hai, #corruption and #lokpal are still buzzing loud. I would love to end off this post with a quote and image which I picked up on Facebook:

‎”I appeal to Anna Hazare to end the fast.” – Pranab M.
“I appeal to Indian Government to end Corruption.” – Anna Hazare

Fasting with Anna. Maybe he can’t walk, but he can fast. He’s doing what he can. Are you?
